So, I I have been a bit behind (jk really behind) on sharing what has been going on in our lives this past month. I now have a backlog of pictures I want to write about and I’m figuring just how to go about organizing them. When I last posted an update it wasn’t long after my parents left. Well, since then we have had another set of visitors (and more coming in a couple weeks!).
Just two weeks after my parents left, my sister in law and husband landed in Brissy for a visit. Morgan had visited once before with their mom back in 2015, but this was Ben’s first time down under. They hung out with us for a week and a half (with a few days in Byron Bay) before finishing their trip in Sydney. We had a great time and they were so much help with both of the kids. I am ready for them to come back! Here’s a bit of what we got up to during their time here.
We took them to our favorite stoping grounds, the West End (Trav’s favorite neighborhood). First we wandered through the Davies Park markets, which always have a good mix of unique handmade items, produce and food stalls. We posted up and listened to some live music, while Leighton tried to share her babychino with Houston.
Next was what Travis calls the west End pub crawl, which is actually just two craft breweries. We have been going to the Catchment since they first opened, and always enjoy sitting in their beer garden. Their food is really good and we tend to go early so we have the space pretty much to ourselves (perfect when you are dining with a toddler).
After lunch and drinks, we enjoyed a final beer at Brisbane Brewing Company before heading home for naps.
Sunday we went to swimming lessons (Morgan got the honor of partaking in them with Leighton), strolled down Oxford Street for some shopping and family fun at the golf club, where Leighton showed a rare kiss with Houston.
They also had many a babychino date with Leighton while they were here. Morgan and Ben quickly learned the key to her heart lies in a tiny coffee cup of frothed milk.
Before they could leave, we had to take Ben (and Houston) to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. It’s a must for all visitors to get their picture holding a koala. I’m not sure who enjoyed it the most, Ben or Leighton. She was obsessed with feeding the kangaroos.
Houston was less excited, and snoozed most of the time.
After a busy morning, I dropped them off so they could do some rappelling (or abseiling as they call it here). Riverlife in Kangaroo Point takes you up to the top of the cliffs and lets you scale down, all while taking in the evening sunset over the skyline. We went for Trav’s birthday a few years ago and it was so much fun. From there they got to catch the ferry home with Travis. I’m sure when we leave Brisbane eventually we will miss having a boat as part of our public transportation.
The next day they headed off to Sydney to finish up their trip and we miss them already! Leighton keeps asking to call Momo and apparently thinks she is coming for her birthday in a couple weeks. We are pretty lucky to have so many visitors, especially now that our hands are a little more full.
That’s it for today’s recap. Next up is a post on what we have been doing on the weekends since they left!
