I’m Back!

I received an email a few months ago that my domain would be up for renewal soon. For a split second I thought of letting it go. It’s been months since I have hit publish, and I have had little to no motivation to write much lately. BUT I just can’t let go of almost 6 years worth of posts and memories. So, I have decided to attempt to get back to writing again. I have barely written anything since we have moved to Adelaide and so much has been going on.

So today I will start with a brief update on life right now.

We have now lived in Adelaide for exactly one year, which is nuts. In some ways it seems shorter, and in others it feels like we were just living in Brisbane. The kids and I have made quite a few good friends and our weeks are pretty busy. Travis is traveling a lot for work, but when he is here we are very appreciative of his five minute commute to the office. We have also found a nice church that has welcomed us whole heartedly.

Up until a few weeks ago Leighton and Houston were both still home with me everyday, but for all of our sanities we are rarely actually at home. The kids are both in swimming, Houston is enjoying our local kinder gym and Leighton started “Ready, Set, Dance” in August, which is a national pre-school dance program. On our spare days we are at playgroup, the library or catching up with friends at the park.

Last month Leighton started going to an ELC (Early Learning Centre aka preschool) two days a week. She has absolutely loved it and Houston is really enjoying his one on one time with me.

Last year we have had three sets of visitors, Trav’s mom and friend, my brother and his girlfriend, and my parents and sister. It was so fun to show them all around and they were loving all the time with the kids. Now we are planning our parents next round of visits, coinciding with the kid’s birthdays in the next few months.

The kids and I spent two months in Texas over the holidays visiting our friends and family. It was great seeing everyone but we were ready to be back into a routine and in our own surroundings.

Houston’s first trip to Yorktown was a success. These city kids were in their element. #littlehoustonalkek #littleleightonalkek

Now that we are back, time is flying and we have two trips on the books. We are spending my birthday weekend (next weekend) in the Yorke Peninsula and heading out to Exmouth in Western Australia in May. So if anyone has any ideas on what to do in either of those places, let me know. Travis is already planning on diving with whale sharks in WA but that is about all we have looked into.

Well if you have made it this far- congrats and what would YOU like to read about? Regular life updates, kid friendly itineraries, travel (I still need to write about New Zealand)? Please let me know!

Life Lately: March 2019

Hi friends! It has been a while over here. As you may already know we spent this month moving across the country.

We arrived back from Texas on the 12th of February and by the end of the month our house was all packed up and we were saying our good byes (see you laters!).

We spent our last two weeks in Brisbane spending as much time with all of our friends and visiting our favorite spots. Our sweet friends even threw a going away party for our whole family at the Victoria Park golf club restaurant. It was perfect because there was a playground and plenty of room for the kids to run around while we caught up. Leighton misses all of her sweet friends so much, we talk about them everyday. Weekending around Brisbane

Hi friends! I thought I would finally show my face around here and share some pictures from our weekend. It wasn’t anything too exciting but I feel like I have been slacking on sharing all the hundreds of photos I take of our little family and talk about what we get up to.

As I mentioned in my September post, Travis spent almost two weeks in Texas for work. Since he has been back it feels like it has rained every weekend, all weekend. So we were pretty happy to see the forecast for last weekend was sunny. Saturday morning started early, because babies. Leighton loves a good sleep in, and I am hoping Houston catches on soon. Who wants to start the weekend by 6am anyway?! We lounged around with our little guy for a while and had our coffees, before he went down for his morning nap and Leighton was up.

Once Houston was up from his nap, we got ready and headed out to the farmer’s market. We have been going to the New Farm market since we first moved to Brisbane, and it is a go to on any Saturday we don’t have plans. Houston wore his baseball cap for the first time and I melted. Leighton is currently loving collecting flowers everywhere she goes.

Life Lately {August Edition}

Hi friends! I can’t believe it is already half way through September and I haven’t even blogged much about what we got up to in August. So here is a little recap of the month, it was a busy one so grab a cup of tea and get comfy.

At the first of the month my mother in law and her boyfriend came to Australia to visit for three weeks. They arrived the day before Leighton’s birthday party and it was so fun to have them there. After the birthday celebrations, we spent the next week exploring Brisbane.

We went to the Mt. Cootha lookout on the first day to get a 360 view of Brisbane in the stunning weather. Continue reading

Houston {Three Months}

We no longer have a newborn people! Honestly, it’s a bit bittersweet. I’m sad at how quickly he’s grown, but at the same I feel like the fun stages are just beginning.

Houston is turning into the sweetest, happiest little guy and I seriously melt every time he smiles. For the most part he’s pretty content and calm unless he gets overtired or too hungry. As long as you stay on top of those two things, you don’t hear much from him. Continue reading

Weekends in July

Since becoming a family of four, we haven’t been heading out on too many adventures on the weekends. Newborns are a bit unpredictable, so we have been taking it easy staying close to home. Hopefully once we are in the swing of things, Houston will be ready to do some exploring further. I haven’t been keeping up with posting lately, so I figured it was time for a little update on what we have been up to on the weekends.

When I last left off, my brother and sister in law were visiting. The following weekend was one of our favorite festivals, the Teneriffe Festival. Teneriffe is the neighborhood directly across the river, where we lived our first few years (in fact in the first picture that is our old building they are walking by). We loved that neighborhood so much, I actually did a whole post on it a few years ago (here).

Morgan and Ben take Brisbane

So, I I have been a bit behind (jk really behind) on sharing what has been going on in our lives this past month. I now have a backlog of pictures I want to write about and I’m figuring just how to go about organizing them. When I last posted an update it wasn’t long after my parents left. Well, since then we have had another set of visitors (and more coming in a couple weeks!).

Life Lately: 2 Under 2

Hi friends! As expected things are a bit slow on the blog front right now, but I thought I would pop in to share a bit of life lately.We are a month into having two kids under two. How is that possible?

My parents were in town for the first three weeks of Houston’s life and that was such a blessing. My mom cooked, cleaned and gave Leighton her undivided attention. She is super woman. My dad got to be fun Pops with Leighton, the baby whisperer (seriously Houston would calm down the minute he held him) and even got to squeeze in some golf games across the street.

When they left I was so sad, but it’s nice getting back into the swing of things and figuring out life as a family of four though.

Here are some highlights from their visit…

Leighton {21 Months}

I started typing up this post before Houston was born and updated it not long after. Well, Leighton is now over 22 months and I’m finally hitting publish.

One of the first things I did after taking the pregnancy test this go around was do the math to see how old Leighton was going to be when the baby was born. 21 months. That seemed so far away at the time. That time is here, and now our chubby, little one year old is only a few months from two.
