Happy Friday everyone! I have quite a bit to share today, so sit tight and make sure you stay until the end to hear about a fun giveaway I’m offering. As usual I am linking up with Andrea, Erica and Narci for Friday Favorites.
Hi friends! I am on a blogging roll this week (probably shouldn’t get used to it). Hope everyone is having a great week, it’s cool and rainy here in Brisbane the last two days and I secretly love it because it has been so hot lately.
Hi friends! As I mentioned in the last post we had some internet issues, so that’s why I have been so quiet. It feels good to be back in this space, although I feel like I don’t even know where to begin catching up on everything. I guess I will start by filling you in on some of my favorites lately.
This little lady is developing quite the personality and is so fun to be around. One of our favorite activities is to meet up with friends at our local coffee shops. Leighton has become quite fond of babychinos and prefers to hold them herself and dive in face first. She loves just sitting in the high chair and people (or dog) watching although she gets quite frustrated if she can’t get everyone’s attention.
Someone from the Trip Scout app reached out to me recently about trying out one of their city guides. Since we don’t have any travel plans on the horizon (we need to fix that) I went and downloaded the Sydney guide just to get a feel of what their guides were like. Trip Scout offers guides for over 50 cities and the best part is they can work with your GPS even when you are offline. Just by looking at your map you can find nearby attractions and lead yourself on a walking tour. They even provide the audio commentary.
If you have any upcoming trips or just want to check out a guide, you can use the code: alkeksabroad to get one for free! Happy Travels 🙂
These aren’t actually new, but just new to me. I am pretty obsessed with listening to podcasts while I get things done during the nap time hustle. I tend to gravitate to unsolved murder type podcasts, but for my mental health I decided to look for something a bit lighter. The first one I listened to was Jamie Ivey’s Happy Hour interview with Catherine Lowe (because Bachelor) and really loved it. Now I am hooked on listening to all of them!
I have always been a big Jen Hatmaker fan, so when I heard she started a podcast I knew it would be something I would enjoy. She interviews different women every week and they are always SO interesting and inspiring.
Being from Texas I have always been a big iced tea drinker. It wasn’t until we moved to Australia that I started drinking hot tea, usually in the evenings before bed. Now don’t get me wrong, I love a flat white or latte at the coffee shop but I have been getting tired of drinking my sub par coffee at home all morning. So I went and visited my local T2 (like Teavana in the States) and bought a sweet black tea for me to drink in the mornings to replace my cup of joe.
It’s the Terrific Toffee loose leaf tea and it is absolutely amazing. I add a bit of Coconut Almond milk in it and I swear I am drinking a Toblerone bar.
It’s been a while since the three of us have been on a day trip. Since the weather is warming up, last Saturday we decided to hit the road and head to the coast. One of the Gold Coast suburbs, Currumbin, was hosting an art sculpture festival on the beach. We had so much fun walking around and checking all of them out.
I think the best part was Leighton leading Travis on a long walk on the beach which allowed me a few minutes of relaxation. We ended the afternoon at the surf club for lunch and Leighton was so patient when we had to wait almost an hour for our food (toddler nightmare). I can’t wait for it to warm up more, so we can spend more weekends on the coast.
That’s all for today. Have a great weekend!
Happy Friday everyone! I am pretty excited for the weekend to be here for family time and to celebrate one of my Aussie besties at her bridal shower we are throwing her.
This week was a fun one, full of celebrations and friends. Last Saturday we decided to celebrate my 30th birthday since our friends from home were still in town. We wanted to do something traditionally Aussie, so an afternoon at the lawn bowls it was! We had been wanting to try out this Australian past time for a while, so my birthday was the perfect excuse to get a group together.
Happy Friday! It feels like it has been such a full (but fun) week and I am so excited for the weekend to come because of my first favorite…
As I am typing this post, two of our best friends are on a plan to Australia!! Travis is meeting them in Sydney to do a little sightseeing and then they will be flying to Brisbane on Sunday. We have lots of fun things planned for them and I LOVE getting to play tour guide in our home away from home. So here are some old pictures for memories sake…
Happy Friday everyone! We are spending the day packing for our week long trip to Tasmania. I can’t wait to go back!
Speaking of fun things, here are this week’s favorites…
My mother-in-law came in to town last Saturday morning to come spend time with us (ok, mostly Leighton). We are loving having her around and it is so nice to have an extra set of hands during the day. Leighton is pretty lucky in the grandparents department. Continue reading
I know I probably say this every month but where has time gone? I can’t believe tomorrow is October! I know everyone in the US is all excited about fall, but I’m over getting real nervous about the hot summer quickly approaching. Here’s my favorites from the past week… Continue reading
I can’t believe that I have officially been a mom for two whole weeks. I am not going to lie it has been a long week of learning how to take care of a newborn at home. This little cutie’s face makes up for the long days and lack of sleep though…
Here are a few of my favorite moments from the past week…
Saturday morning Travis captured these pictures of Leighton coming out of her cocoon aka her swaddle. Her little stretches are my favorite. Continue reading
Hi friends! Hope everyone had a great week.
It was pretty uneventful over here, but waking up to the news from Nice this morning was not the way I expected it to end. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of the victims’ families around the world. There is way too much evil in this world ya’ll. Hold your loved ones close tonight.
On a lighter note, time is FLYING by over here (at least for me). I can not believe that I have already been off of work for 3 weeks and there’s only three more until it’s baby time. I honestly can’t really tell you what I have been doing with my spare time other than not crossing things off of my to do list and methodically killing every plant in our herb garden.
Now that we have a date that Baby A will be joining us (21 days at the latest, not that I am counting) we are really trying to make the most of our time as a twosome. Here are my favorite memories from the past week…
Last Friday I met Travis in the city and we hopped over the river to South Bank. South Bank is probably the most touristy part of Brisbane. It’s also where all the museums, theaters and giant ferris wheel are located. There are a lot of restaurants along the river and parkland, and at night the area is pretty lively. On the weekends they also have a market set up with mostly handmade goods and a few food stalls.
Since I only took one picture that night here are some pictures I took the other day after meeting a friend and her daughter at the (really awesome) playground in the parklands.
Hi friends, hope everyone had a great week!
I’m back for the second time this week, so maybe (just maybe) that means I’m back on some sort of blog schedule.
Here’s what’s been happening in our parts the past week…
We had a really low key weekend last weekend, but Sunday we decided to get some baby errands done. We made our first voyage to Babies R Us and only walked out with some diapers and wipes (priorities). We then decided to drive across town to face IKEA once again and ended up leaving with a crib and rocker.
Trav put it together right when we got home and now I love walking by there and peaking in. I’ve been in full on nursery mode now, pinning and making collages of everything under the sun. My favorite though is the crib sheet I ordered from Little Unicorn (in the top right).
