Houston {Ten Months}

As per usual, I am almost a month late on poor Houston’s update.

This month was a busy one! We moved from Brisbane to Adelaide, so Houston was bouncing around 4 different “homes” in the past few weeks. He did well though and he is absolutely loving our new house and the backyard. Houston is still the sweetest, most loving little boy who loves to blow kisses and nuzzle his head on your chest. He smiles at everyone and is just genuinely happy almost all of the time (when he is not he is very good at letting you know). I am not sure how we got so lucky to be this little guy’s parents.

22ish pounds (he hasn’t been properly weighed in months)

6 teeth (four top and two bottom)

6-12m and 12-18m clothes depending on the brand Continue reading

Houston {Eight and Nine Months}

I can’t believe two more months have gone by (and I’m late again in posting this once again). I did start his eight month post but was having issues with wordpress and pictures so it never got published, so I figured I would just combine the two months.

  • 20ish lbs
  • 3 teeth (plus one more coming through)
  • 6-12M/12M clothes

Still nursing/bottle 4 times a day but weaning toward mostly formula (around 8 months). At 9 months he only nurses first thing in the morning.

He has discovered how great food is now and is a machine. Houston loves meat, fruit and carbs the most. I’m still working on getting more veggies in him. I also have started reducing his bottles (5 to 6oz instead of 8) because he is taking more solids every day. So thankful that so far we have another good eater.

Hallelujah for finally some good news on this front. Jet lag plus already bad sleeping habits made for a rough first few weeks in Texas, sleep wise. After we settled in at my parents in Houston in the new year, we did a little tough love and after just one night he was sleeping soooo much better. Although here are some pics of the poor jetlaged soul not being able to stay awake at Christmas.

At eight months he was either sleeping though the night or waking once, and mostly able to put himself back to sleep and by 9 months he wasn’t waking most nights. He had a little hiccup when we got back to Brisbane because of jet lag and we had four hard nights where he was wide awake for hours wanting to be up. After those nights though he went back to sleeping through the night.

Another sleep change was around 7 months he switched to a 2 nap a day schedule. He’s awake around 3 hours in between naps and although it’s tricky because I try to be home for nap time, it’s also nice to have more of a schedule.

Around 7 months, Houston started doing little crawls to play with things but hadn’t really taken off. Then at 8 months he was unstoppable. He gets into everything and now has just started pulling to stand on everything in sight as well. I have my hands very full with this one.

He continues to be the happiest, most playful little guy. People tell me often they have never seen a smilier baby. I hope he always has such a love for life and people.

His favorite person is still Leighton, and she is finally warming up to the idea of him as a playmate. Seeing them play together is the cutest thing ever.

That’s all for now. We are smack in the middle of moving so I am not sure when the next post might be!

Leighton {21 Months}

I started typing up this post before Houston was born and updated it not long after. Well, Leighton is now over 22 months and I’m finally hitting publish.

One of the first things I did after taking the pregnancy test this go around was do the math to see how old Leighton was going to be when the baby was born. 21 months. That seemed so far away at the time. That time is here, and now our chubby, little one year old is only a few months from two.

Leighton {Ten Months}

Only two more of these updates before I have a toddler! How on earth is that possible?!

Truthfully, I have felt like I have had a toddler for the past month or so. Now that she is on the move she is into EVERYTHING and will not still still unless she’s eating or sleeping. She also is developing a little attitude when you do something she doesn’t like. I am getting a tad nervous for the teen years. Continue reading

Leighton {Six Months}

Hi remember me? I used to blog here regularly? Well we will back in Australia next week and I will hopefully get back to blogging. We’ve been in Texas the past two months (sans computer, excuse any weird spacing in this post I’m on my phone). Anyway back to business with Leighton’s monthly update…

Around 16lbs, not sure of length (we have her 6 month appointment when we get back)

Size 3-6 clothes but they are getting snug

We started introducing some solids gradually this month. She’s had some purees and some things she’s just grabbed and fed herself. I’ve been reading the Baby Led Weaning book, but we’re just doing a mix of that and more traditional purree/spoon feeding. She likes holding things herself.

This has been an interesting month sleep wise… I thought we dodged the 4 month regression but then the night she turned 5 months she started waking up again ?. Leighton has been sleeping through the night (12+ hours) since three months, so this was a harsh adjustment for us. Luckily she is back to sleeping through most nights although she does like to get up and practice her crawling but usually can put herself back to sleep pretty quickly. Now I’m just dreading getting her back on track once we’re home in Australia…

I think we are finally making progress in the nap department too and hopefully we can get into some sort of a routine when we get back.

Putting everything in her mouth, her Pops, eating food, my camelback water bottle, sitting on people’s shoulders, the jumperoo, being on the floor, smirking at everything, DOGS

Being held too long, long road trips

  • Surprising my grandma for her 80th birthday! We showed up on her front door (8 hours away) unannounced.
  • Spending lots of time with family in Texas. She hung out with all her grandparents and some aunts and uncles.
  • Getting to visit one of besties in New Braunfels just days before her little one made a debut. The best was going to our college town, San Marcos, and showing Leighton some of our old stomping grounds.

  • Going on lunch and dinner dates with my friends and their babies. It’s so fun getting to spend time and see how everyone’s kids have grown.
  • Seeing Travis after being apart for a whole month!

Developmental Milestones

  • Getting pretty good at sitting up on her own, I’m still not confident enough to move too far away.

  • Trying to crawl all the time. She gets up on her hands and knees and does lots of rocking.

  • Grabbing EVERYTHING. Gone are the days of being able to eat a meal with her on your lap. She will try and get her hands on anything she can reach.
What’s Up Next…

Visiting her second cousin, Luke, in Fort Worth this week. They are the same age difference as my cousin and I, so it will be fun to see the second generation of the Whitaker grandkids together.

Flying back to Australia next week! She’s a lot more active since we flew over two months ago, so all the prayers are welcome!

And the outtakes…
